problem with windows

Hi,
At the moment i have just finished buliding up my computer, and then when i try installing windows after the first (http://www.pcguide.com/byop/byop_BootingtheWindowsXPCDInitialSetupScreen.htm) setup menu, when i press Enter, it sais:
"Setup did not find any hard disc drives installed on your computer

Make sure any hard disc drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disc-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.

Setup cannot continue.To quit setup press F3"

So i check and recheck all of the plugs and nothings wrong.
Here are the configs of the computer:
-Motherboard (http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/d945psn/index.htm)
-Processor (http://www.intel.com/products/processor/pentium4/)
-Video card (http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-NVIDIA_GEFORCE_6600_128MB_PCIE_TVOUT_DV)
-HDD (http://www.e-soph.com/pub/index.php?sec=produit&cat=3&id=1525&origin=10)

So for the problem with the HDD I have this (http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Promise_Promise_Ultra_133_TX2_Storage_controller_ATA_133_133_MBps_PCI_pack_of_5) PCI adapter, and this (http://www.sunix.com.tw/en/Promotion-1.php?sid=182) IDE- Serial ATA bridge device.
I finally think that the HDD is just not compatible with the Mobo, but i'm not that sure.

Hi and Welcome to Virtual Dr. :)


So you have and IDE ATA133 hard drive, a controller card, and a SATA adapter, the board has one ATA input, and 4 x SATA ports, so i think you could try the hard drive direct to the board to see if it is recognised that way, unless you plan to add more IDE drives you could buy SATA drives for future use.

Well actually I tried that 5 minutes ago, when i though about it i thought it would work, but after the startup and the beginning of the windows setup , the first screen does'nt show up and instead is sais something like:
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears agian, follow these steps:

Chceck for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controller. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configures and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Also i forgot to say that my hardrive does have information on it, I just never used any system on it.

Is this is a used HD in which case did you format it first ?

Are the jumper pins sets correctly ?

what i mean is that my HDD still has info, on it, I did'nt format it 'cus I thought it would automatically format it when i installed windows but since windows doesn't even start installing, well it doesn't format it, is this really that important? And i check and rechecked the jump pins, so I really doubt its that.

What OS are you trying to install ?

I think that XP will automatically format the HD but anything earlier will not and thus you'll have all that left over garbage hanging about that may cause issues.

So i found the problem, i checked the jumper pins at the back, and found out that the black connector thingy was broke so i got one from an old computer, so then it worked, then I had the NTSCl problem, so i put the HDD in the old computer formatted it, put it back in the new one, and now windows is installing on my new computer.

And if someone has the same problem as me, tell them to make sure that the jumper pins are good, such a simple thing held me back for more then 2 weeks.
