vhs to dvd

i have a pci tv tuner and i wish to convert some of my vhs videos to dvd. Instead of saving the videos to my pc, then burning to dvd, is there any software i can use to burn straight to dvd instead of saving on my pc first?

VHS tapes are in mpeg1(analog) format. This needs to be changed to mpeg2(digital) at least,to be compatible with DVD burning...

Did you get some software with the TV card to rip video input? if so once you have the files ripped in MPEG1 you can use this nice simple util to convert the files to DVD format: http://www.vso-software.fr/divxtodvd/divxtodvd2.htm

Well i'll be:

Import and Capture Video and Audio
Capture from DV and Digital8 devices.
Capture from MPEG and analog devices.
Capture from DirectShow device.
Import, edit and burn MPEG-4 and DivX files.

Cheers for the input Jim, i just got that with my TV Card, haven't had chance to test drive it fully.:)

I am capturing old family vhs tapes from my vcr. I am getting these white bands in the center of the playback. It's like the video is censored. This is happening when I use Sonic My DVD 5.2.3 or Power Director 3, its happening during the capture...Is there a technical term or jargon for these white bands across the screen...I know a specific thing will cure this problem...Sonic/Power Director support give me a litany of cures...My video card is Ge Force 4-8 x Ti 4200...I fixed this problem a year ago and did'nt write down the solution....You can see and hear the video at the top and bottom of the playback...... Think your missing his original question people? Doesn't want to use any software. He wants to burn directly from VHS to DVD. Ain't gonna' happen without capturing first and converting the analog format to digital.

And,of course,my preference is Nero Recode2 for that... :)

actually i did ask for software which could burn direct to dvd. i have discovered that Nero vision express has the option to burn direct to dvd. have to use dvd-rw's though.

If you want to go direct.... give your pc the day off and buy a set top DVD-recorder. I got an ILO from Wal*Mart (about $90) and I can do instant transfers for all of my lo-fi needs. If you're looking for something higher quality, you'll have to be patient, since good mpeg 2 encoding takes two passes, and usually both passes take longer than real time.
Incidentally, VHS tapes are not mpeg1 encoded, they are analog.
