Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : why were these Microsoft updates canceled?

Today, when I turned my computer on, I saw the Update icon at the bottom and then it disappeared. I checked the Microsoft Update site to check my update history and it showed all the updates for today were canceled. What does this mean?

Are those (close to) the exact words?
It may depend on how you have set the Windows Update notice up. If it is only to notify you of available Updates but not to download or install, then you must go to the site to actually download and install.
What happens if you just run Windows Update (rather than go to "update history")? Perhaps that message means you did not agree to install the recommended Updates but went to the "update history" window?
If you have not installed the latest updates offered, then they, indeed, would not appear in the "update history".
Of course, you could change the settings in Control Panel|Security Center.

There were several major critical updates for XP issued yesterday so Id suggest revisiting the update site to ensure theyre installed correctly.

There was a glitch on the Windows Update server earlier. I can't find the article now, but apparently it's all been fixed anyway.

I have automatic updates. If you go to "review update history" it shows whether the updates were succeeded, canceled or failed. Mine showed they were canceled for the ones today. Like I said, the update icon showed up and then it disappeared. Usually, when the icon shows up I just click on it and it then starts downloading and installing updates. Today it just came on and disappeared. I did not cancel anything.
