networking hp printer [Solved]

ok I am back again....lol

i Have a working network sharing 2 printers on my xp machine and i just recently installed a hewlett packard officejet k80 xi on my 98 pc.I have tried to set up the printer so i can access it from my xp machine but there is nothing in the printers properties to allow sharing of this device??? I thought I was beginning to understand how this stuff work but then I get a wrench in the gears and everything comes to a halt....any help would be great Thank you

if i understand the link correctly i cannot use it on my 98 machine!!?? I do not understand ? how do i know which pc is the host and which is the server ?

If the all-in-one product is locally installed to a computer that is on a network, other computers can print to it. If the network server is running Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows 95/98 with Windows 95/98 clients, the server can automatically load the required drivers onto the client PC using the point-and-print feature. If the network uses a Windows 9X server the driver will have to be loaded manually onto a Windows NT 4.0 or 2000 client PC, this type of installation is called peer-to-peer.

NOTE: Only the printing feature of the all-in-one product is possible when connected in this manner. The unit must be connected using an HP Jetdirect print server to gain access to advanced features.

All computers must be connected to the network and the printer must be installed on the local or host computer before setting up printer sharing. File and Print sharing must be enabled on all computers (Windows 95 and 98 only, Windows NT and 2000 automatically enable this feature).

Go to the computer that the HP is attached to. Since this is your 98 machine.

1. Click Start, Settings, and Printers.
2. Right-click the printer icon and select Sharing from the menu. The Properties will appear with the Sharing section.
3. Click Shared As and enter a share name for the printer.

Then go to your other machines and tell it to add a Network Printer. On any XP machine, click Start, Control Panel, and then click Printer and Faxes. Click "Add a Printer" under Related tasks in the left pane to start the Add Printer Wizard. Tell it to add a Network Printer. Then browse for the network printer.

Man I feel dumb I was doing everything correctly!!! previously I right clicked on network neighborhood and selected properties and checked allow sharing of printers I restarted the pc and assumed that all was in order but apparentlly i was wrong .So by doing it again all is well sorry for wasting your time ..but at least it does not mean that i know less about networking then i thought but it does mean that I should always recheck everything instead of assuming it is in proper order...... again thanx
