My Sony PlayStation2 keeps crashing during heavy use.[resolved]

Hi everyone!

It's nice to be back with more problems!

Greetings!

I have a Linksys wired router. Its model is BEFSR41 and it is for cable or DSL. Its version number is 3.1 and it has four ports in the back. I have 4 connections to this router and they are a 2.4 GHz Hewlett Packard Laptop with XP Home OS only about 1 1/2 years of age and a Sony Play Station2 with an online game named Final Fantasy and its about 2 years of age or more and a 1.9 GHz Hewlett Packard Desk Top PC with XP Home OS about 1 year of age and a Compaq 900 MHz Desktop PC with XP Home OS about 3 years of age.

Often when we have all four machines connected and downloading files and connected to a multitude of web sites, the Play Station has a pattern of disconnecting from the internet and my son yells at me as if it's my fault. (since I inhereited the postion of Network Admin. at my home<smiles>)

Maybe there is a setting that I can adjust in the router's software that will stop this. Can you properly address this problem? I do thank you very much for your help!

maybe if you put the sony in slot 1 it would take precedence?

if not maybe there is some type of throttling settings on the router (i know there are software solutions eg-netlimiter)?

Ok,Wheel, I'll set it on the 1st slot and see what happens....before it was in the 3rd slot.....i'll write back and let you know how it works after we've tried it for a few days in slot 1....

You might try doing some port forwarding (http://uk.playstation.com/networkgaming/story.jhtml?storyId=106348_en_GB_GUIDES) on the router for the PS2 it may help reception.

Final Fantasy XI:
TCP 25, 80, 110, 443, and 50000 - 65535
UDP 50000 - 65535
TCP 1024 - 65535

If no other solution works the last line is to set the PS2 IP address in the DMZ of the router.

I called the cable man out here and he discovered that there was a cable spliter that was defective and some other things and he repaired them....we have not had any disconnects since then.....I'll write back if any more problems....I'll also take note of this message (with the port settings) that you sent to me.
