Wireless problems [Solved]

I have a simple home wireless network with a Dlink di-624 router and 2 laptops with pc card wireless adapters (D-Link). I bought a new pc card wireless adapter (Dlink DWL-G650) and installed it on one of the laptops. Now this laptop does not recognize the wireless network at all. I have tried 2 other wireless adapters in this computer that used to work fine, now they don't . It just doesn't "see" the network.

Any suggestions?

Hi Fredski,

What operating system are you using?
What software are you using to manage your wireless connection?
Are you able to share a Internet Connection?

I use WXP Home Ed. on all machines.

Have just used Windows to manage the wireless connections. There is a program installed with the Dlink adapter but I never did anyting with it.

When it was working, I was able to share the internet connection without a problem.

It could be the software installed that is conflicting with the wireless zero configuration. Try uninstalling the software since you use Windows.

Did you enable wireless encryption in the D-Link router? If so, try turning off the encryption temporarily and see if the network connection works. If that doesn't do it, post "ipconfig /all" for both computers.

Interesting. Do you usually recommend NOT to install the softwares that come w/ the adapter and just use Window's?

Yes, I do recommend using XP built in configuration to configure the wireless network. It's better to check with the manufacturer to see whether or not you can use Wireless Zero Configuration service or not. There are some network cards that isn't compatable with this service. Therefore you must use the third party software to manage the wireless connection.

And if you are running third party software, it's a good idea you uncheck "Use Windows to configure the wireless network" and disable the Wireless Zero Configuration service.
