Hi I am frustrated. Have new Twinhan USB TV tuner. Reception shows as good and I can get good pictures - however program crashes every 2 min or so (...has to close down..) giving nevideo.ax as a reason.
this is a nero file and I tried:
registering it - same problem
unregistering it and later renaming it led to no picture at all on the tuner, but good sound - it was stable. Obviously the nero ax does not go, but is needed, with the TV tuner. Twinhan support offers 4 FAQ in broken English, no support forum.
What can I do? What would I search for? Can I replace the nevidio.ax with a non nero file that does the same>
help appreciated, thanks

Did you update Nero or Nero Recode (depending on which that file is part of) to see if it resolved the problem?

The file is located in Common files/Ahead/DSFilter/NeVideo.ax - its called an: MPEG-1/2/4 video decoder w/ DxVA version MPEG-1/2/4 video decoder w/ DxVA version 1.1.7.13 - not keen on downloading update, remember there are problems with newer version, plus if the INCD thing starts again I'll o barmey. Seems to me if I could find a replacement file that fits the above bill it would be poss to exchange them? sorry, any hints, thanks Noid

On the InCD... Unless you have InCD installed updating Nero or Recode won't cause it to be installed.
Yes, that file is a DS (directshow) filter file. But updating it alone could have other undersireable consequences. There may dependencies that files has or other files have to with it that require more than just tht file be updated.

Hm, actually looked at nerosite, the download takes 3 hrs. There were some probs with SP2 and some players I seem to remember, not sure. Just saw a new post on a German site, that stated that the latest release of nero had an updated nevideo.ax to sort out probs (this I think refers to gaming). Just need a replacement to work with my tv card Do you think someone could send me the newer version file to replace old one? Also have all my codecs info now, not that this makes it any clearer to me. Include them just in case, thanks Noid

Dr can I pester you? My thoughts are (and this might be incorrect) that the twinhan tuner does not require nero to be installed (obvious) therefore nero jumps in and twinhan uses a file nevideo.ax instead of another one. therefore if I put another file in (which one?where?) it should use that one instead and not crash every 60 sec. I dont see how this requires new nero install.
thanks Noid

Not pestering at all.
If you want to try just pulling in a new nevideo.ax you can certainly try it. My concern is (as I said above) that there may be dependencies between this file and others, and so replacing just this file with a newer/different version may result in a situation where there is not peacefull coexistence (so to speak). If you are going to replace the one file I would at least get it from the latest nero (or recode) update (extract it from the download). Personally, unless someone else here has a different opinion I would just do a backup (to be save) and then do the nero updates.
You are correct in saying that your tv tuner does not need nero. The file it is compaining about happens to belong to nero, and is only in the loop because a) nero is installed (or at least recode) and b) because the file in question is a directshow filter (one of them) and as such is being brought in to play indirectly here.

Thanks. Guess could try uninstalling nero then see what happens. what is the direct show filter? Many people on forums talk about codecs and replacing them and how this stops crashing of games. is DS filter containing parts of codecs?
The tuner software comes with a full version of power.dvd, i had an older version and thought the prob might have to do with this. then uninstalled old and installed new powerdvd, but I had no sound on the system at all, nada. uninstalled and system restored - have sound but the same tuner prob.
What I wonder is that I never had any problem whatsoever with free software programs, admittedly they are often small, so how come programs we pay for are usually wobbly? sigh, wishing for a peaceful mind, Noid

Directshow (DS) filters are related to DirectX and, yes, are in the codec scheme of things. Since DirectX is predominently what's used today in just about anything audio or video related in windows, using DirectX filters is very common. Codecs certainly can cause problems from time to time. Usually though its because of conflicts or simply buggy versions. Often times codecs (or filters) that might seem unrelated to the task at hand cause problems simply because (for lack of a better way of saying it) they are not just independent entities, rather they form a chain of (program) code. And if one of the links in the chain has a problem, the chain breaks. Removing or updating the particular link can correct the situation (now hows that for a nice metaphorical and cryptic response :) ).
If you want to try removing Nero then that of course is your choice. But I assume you use Nero for cd/dvd burning.
