slow web pages

hi yesterday i started using a new laptop...acer aspire 1355xv athlon xp-m 2600..256 ddr sdram..30gb hdd
it was ok yesterday, i downloaded zone alarm avast antivirus, and adware advant se. it worked fine then todayit automatically updated windows xp and avast antivirus updates.
now it is so slow going to a web page. is it the antivirus software, should i uninstall it? could you advice. using dial up
