Merijn, the developer of CWShredder has sold the source code to Intermute. CWShredder is the ONLY tool available that can get rid of the nasty CoolWebSearch browser hijacker. Merijn had stopped working on the tool a few months ago because of lack of time. The tool had not been updated for a while, and was thus rendered virtually useless against the ever updated CoolWebSearch trojan.
Intermute has now taken complete control over the tool and will update it on a regular basis. The tool remains Freeware.
It can be downloaded here:

Yes, usil, good to know it's back and operational. I always wondered what the heck we would do now when members had coolwebsearch.........
And bookmarked now too. ;)

This is a repeat of the post I made under the "Is your software uptodate" thread
"The new CWShredder2 apparently has some problems associated with it. Specifically, it deletes certain HOSTS file entries. And it seems to contain only one new CoolWebSearch variant since Merijn's last version 1.59.0.1.

So may be best to stick with Merijn's last version, though as we know, it is getting a bit out of date."

The InterMute version only runs on Win98SE and later.

Good point Jerry. Although I think its time for anyone running less than that to update. Don't get offended :D

I'm not offended, Usil, but I do like my Win95. However, I stand prepared to wipe it and reinstall it at a moment's notice in case of any infections that aren't easily cleaned off.
