Good Idea, if the members will police themselves on this forum. I am sure some here remember the old "No Wonder" board, which was very popular a few years ago, and it got completely out of bounds, so the owners of the forum shut it down, renamed it E-People and it shut down shortly afterward due to no input. Let's don't let that happen here. Delete the Lounge if it begins to become like No Wonder did. I am really not worried that members will abuse the priviledge that the new forum offers. However, I AM greatly surprised (but grateful) to see it at all. Happy yakking.

Don't worry, all the mod staff will be keeping a very close eye on this forum, at least to start with.

I do indeed remember NoWonder, and I for one will not allow our OT forum to go the way of that one. But I also remember there were some very interesting threads there.

Are we having a specifically written set of rules for the Lounge so that it is quite clear to posters whats allowed and whats taboo?

BTW I too was suprised by its appearence too as I normally just use the new posts links as a shorcut. It wasnt till I responded to a previous post from here that it became apparent.

Nope, the AUP will apply just the same. As long as the threads are polite, and don't discuss anything illegal, then there won't be any problems.

I would urge members to remember that this is a kid-friendly site, and not to start topics that are not what you would want your own children to see.

Kid-friendly- - - Well said supersparks, and I agree with you that there were many excellent threads on NoWonder. I would indeed like to see those types of threads come about on this forum, for they were both entertaining and informative. Maybe if they had had different or additional monitors, it might not have gone the way of the DoDo bird.

I would suggest refraining from the usual hot spot topics, such as this upcoming election.
Most have their minds made up, and nothing said here would likely sway anyone anyway; and any undecided's likely won't make up their mind till they are in the booth, so no need for that issue to be discussed, IMO.

Those kind of topics are what gets things posted that are later regretted.
But troll-like behavior will some time show up, as there are always some who just happen by, or we have somebody mad at another.

I would imagine the regulars here would be on their best behavior, seeing how difficult it was to get this allowed here.

As for Nowonder, I too remember it, but was barely there. I do know that a lot of the trouble that happened there just before that OT forum was dumped, was caused by somebody who was here as well, and was later "convinced" to move on from here.
Rumour had it, more than one ID at the NW OT was the same person, even arguing with himself now and then in threads.

yeah, the good old days.

And for those not "in the know" about the Greengoose valley ... some excerpts from the past ...

..... Ah yes, back in the day... days of taking the Train, Running_on_Wheel(s) to the Greengoose valley to visit the last Bistro in TooLoopy2 province. Then the KGG, affiliated with the JLS came along, and we didn't have enough seats! But, Jubal(ation), someone said "Philgo, get another car from Nix"..... but, Anarchyreigns and Billmanhart highjacked the train! Little did they know that taking us through Calpitor pass went straight to the Bistro, as written in Luke92881. They pressed on but the Mkuspider scared Billmanhart, falling against the brake just in time. Could still hear jslater25 yelling, "let's go! Off to the Bistro!", as I sit sipping a freshly made capppucino... contemplating my next build..... AMD? Intel? Where's that Cyrix manual again? I hear Commodore 64's are all the rage this fall... hummmmmm.

Used most everyone's moniker that had posted in that thread... fun.

Yeah....been lost for awhile. I was abducted by aliens and subjected to horrible experiments, that I won't go into.....

They were trying to force me to give the location of the famed and all-powerful Emachine. Something about not be able to dominate Earth until they had it or something. I kept my secret, though.....

BTW, gang......that machine is STILL running......LOL:D

I've been hither, thither, and yawn...er...."yon". Went back to Pentium Mountain to get some more of my stuff I left behind.....books (comic-type), manuals (like the Official Pac-Man walkthrough), my M&M candy wrapper collection, my photo album with close-up pictures of snow, my statue of Elvis made entirely of rubber bands.......you know....important stuff.

Bistro, I can't find my copy of the "Preferred Paths" for Pac Man. If you have a copy I sure would like a copy of your copy.

Heard you were modding alot. Any pictures or are they coming out in MaxximumPC?

:) The editor of MaximumPC sent me a cool T-shirt a few months ago after I sent him a letter regarding their "Speed" issue. He passed it around the staff and they all had a good time laughing at my commentary. It's black and has this on the back (http://www.boomspeed.com/bistro/TShirtBack.jpg). Pretty cool. I wear it only to special occasions like weddings, funerals, black tie parties, etc..

As for mods (are we off the thread topic here? Whoa....): The only thing I've done lately is get this Antec case (http://www.boomspeed.com/bistro/11Front_Done.jpg), completely soundproofed it, added a 500w Thermaltake Silent psu and a few other goodies. I also did this mod (http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=12617&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 ) to the side panel. Cooled down my CPU and motherboard by seven to eight degrees. Took me probably an hour. That's about it for any mods lately.

I failed to mention....I installed a Zalman 7000 Aluminum/Copper HSF (http://www.boomspeed.com/bistro/7000_small.jpg) with that mod. Seems to work best with that type of duct. I modded the HSF just a little bit by placing soft rubber grommets on the mounts...added a little more cushion to quiet it down even further. Can't hear it now unless you are right up on it, yet it's set on high rpm's.
