Ok, this is the problem that I have. I have a Linksys router BEFSR41 V3, and I'm trying to configure it so I can use my VNC from school to view my home computer.

My instructor told me I had to set a static IP address on the router, from which I would type in my IP address of my computer (192.168.1.100) and use the subnet mask 255.255.255.0, and the default gateway as my routers IP address (address I would have assigned to my computer if I didn't use a router) How can I get this to work? Because setting it up this way just isn't working, help would be appreciated, thanks.

http://www.portforward.com/linksys/befsr41-portforwarding.htm is a fairly good guide.

For VNC, you want to forward TCP port 5800 and/or 5900. One of those (I think 5800) is the port used by the VNC client, and the other is used by its web interface for the Java viewer.
