My son just got a new XP computer and we want to copy about 5GB of music files.

Both computers (as well as 2 others) are connected to a Linksys router to the Internet.

In the Windows Home Networking Wizard, what is the correct selection with regard to how the computer connects to the network?

None of these computers is the "host" connected to the Internet. That's the router's job.

When I set up both computers as "clients", they can't see each other under MSHOME with sharing turned on.

Both computers have Zone Alarm. Could there be a firewall issue preventing us from seeing them under MSHOME in My Network Places?

I found with my 98/SE and XP networked together I have to turn off ZoneAlarm on both in order to transfer files.Sent hundreds of tunes from this one over to the XP. You might have to turn off XP's built in firewall as well.I don't recall doing that though.

Additionally I have the XP set up as the host.I don't know all that much about networks but I believe that one must be set as the host.

Hope that this is of some help.

Well, I shutdown Zone Alarm on both Win XP machines, as well as turning off ICF and Cyber Patrol.

I still can't see the other PC under MSHOME under My Network Places. I only see the PC (i.e. Max's Alienware) that I'm currently on.

Do I need to make any change to the Linksys Router? Could the router be blocking anything?

Any other ideas?

Thanks :-)

Never mind....

I don't know what happened, but all of a sudden the other PC is visible under MSHOME.

I didn't make any additional changes....just walked away for about 10 minutes and came back.

Anyway, I guess either turning off Zone Alarm, Cyber Patrol, or ICF did the trick.

Thanks!:)
