To use a highly untechnical phraze, my IE6 won't connect to any wabpages because the status bar just goes insane. Right when I open the browser, it just flashes "detecting proxy settings," "connecting to site XXXXXXX," and perhapse a third thing. They alternate so fast I can't really read them at all, so I don't know what site it says it's trying to connect to, although it doesn't appear to be my homepage. It just look like it's reconnecting or restarting somehow at least 10 times/second. It's very strange. All I can say about it is that it started right after I ran Ad-Aware 6.

Does anyone know what's going on, and how I can fix this. I tried reinstalling IE6, but no luck. Please help.

I opened IE and looked very carefully at the status bar. The site it's trying to contact to ends in:

streetinteractive.com

There's more to the address but I can't make it out because it's scrambled with the alternating "detecting proxy settings." I have no idea what this website is. It's not my homepage.

Help.

Since you already ran Adaware, I would first suggest running SpyBot Search & Destroy. Only delete the entries that are red. If that doesn't solve the problem, download HijackThis and save it to its onw permanent folder. Run it with all other browser windows closed. Save the log and copy and paste it here. Someone here should be able to go over your log and tell you if something doesn't belong.

I ran SpyBot and the problem appears to be gone now. Thanks.
