Hi, does anyone know about a spyare called Hotbar, My Ad Aware spyware identifier keeps finding files which I delete. When I reboot I get a message 'configuring files' like when I add or remove new software.
I found some files in Programme files folder called Hotbar, can I just delete them or will it cause me problems? the item does not appear in my add/remove programmes list. My PC is running OK however, just I guess reporting our internet viewing habits somewhere. I have also up to date antivirus installed.

After you have uninstalled it I would also download & install Adaware, update it & in settings make sure to tick; scan within archives, deep scan registry & then in 'Tweak' tick automatically try to 'unregister objects prior to deletion.' Run the scan & place a check next to everything it finds & remove them.
Download Spybot S & D, update & run it. Remove everything it finds. Within this program there is an option to 'immunise'. do this. There is also a link to spywareblaster, follow the link, download & install it, then update it. This program runs in the background to keep those little bugs out.

Before you try it, you should download the uninstall program and run it before removing the registry keys. It can make problems otherwise.

Once you get rid of that junk,dn/load,install and update 'Spyware Blaster' http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html and it will keep it(and many others) from getting on again...;)

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the advice

I am a coward when it comes to deleting things, we have had so many problems in the past having to restore everything, especially worried about fiddling with registry keys. but I am going to get Spybot, I already have adaware, which is how I found the Hotbar stuff, and it does remove it, but I find it just keeps coming back again!!

The registry 'can' be intimidating for many. And that is 'not' a bad thing. If you don't know what your doing,modifying it can have dire consequences. If you look on this page,it has an easy remove for hotbar at the bottom: http://www.pchell.com/support/hotbar.shtml

Thats exactly the reason I said to use the uninstall tool before removing the registry keys. Ad-aware and Spybot can remove some, but in the case of Hotbar, it doesn't seem to be able to remove everything. IMO, if you try to use the uninstall now, it won't work because it will be missing some files. You will probably have to reinstall hotbar, and then use the uninstaller.

Hi, Me again about Hotbar, I finally downloaded Spybot and have removed all the hotbar items, when I rebooted my PC i got an error message 'problem writing to disk'and the pc did not start, however on subsequent starts all seems ok, I also removed something relating to Alexa. I notice in the Spybot scan brings up another item in red (which the tutorial advises is ok to delete) called DSO Exploit , to do with Microsoft but is a regisrty entry. Is it really OK to delete this, I am so wary of messing the PC again (and am still a bit suspiciuos of this disk write error I just got)?

Just to advise I downloaded Spybot and it cleared Hotbar, and some other rubbish that was there. I am very pleased.
