OE v6
MSN Messenger v6
Win98SE

If I don't have MSN Messenger on my tray icon I get an error going into OE that says:

This message comes up every single time I go into OE.

But if I have MSN Messenger in my tray icon (not even running, just there) then I don't get the message every time I go into OE. I have tried removing MSN and then reinstalling it.

Any ideas of what this may be. I figured it may be that MSN Messenger is the default messenger so it tries to start. I looked in MSN Messenger for any settings to take off to be default messenger but can not find any.

I don't want to keep MSN Messenger in my tray because I hardly ever use it but do have a friend on it and don't want to get rid of it.

Some suggestions would be appreciated.

I don't know if you've already tried this but go to OE and "tools" then to "general" tab, untick "automatically logon to windows messenger" This will not remove messenger but it will stop it from being accessed in OE.

If you've tried this already, maybe someone else knows the answer.

Hope this helps!!

Okay now this is strange. I did do as you said but the checkmark was not there already. So i figured i would make AOL IM the messenger service thinking there was something wrong with the MSN service. When I did that the AOL IM signon box comes up but then if i click to shut the window the welcome screen for OE just sits there. So then i went back to AOL IM and took away the check mark to make it the default messenger and it still did the same thing; just sits at the welcome screen. Then I double clicked on the MSN messenger icon and OE opened. So I guess it is a setting in OE or something is wrong in OE. Because I took the setting away in IM to be the default messenger and when I start OE IM starts. I shut that down, wait and wait and nothing happens. If I open MSN Messenger then my OE opens. This is really strange.

Any other thoughts here people.

Thanks

Marka, I would try doing a repair for IE because it sounds like you may have a corrupt IE. You should be able to do a repair by going to "control panel" to "add/remove" and click on IE, then a window will pop up, then select "repair" it is the second option in the radio buttons.

Please confirm. A repair of IE or OE.

I wasn't sure if IE related some how to this that's why I ask.

Thanks

Marka, because OE and IE are integrated when you repair IE it also repairs OE.
