I think I saw a thread here at one time where someone said that you could clone your disk to an empty partition within that disk.
I have been unable to find it. Could someone please tell me if this is possible and how it is done

Cloning is when you make an identical copy of one drive on another physical drive. What you may be remembering is using a 2nd partition on the same drive to store an image file (kinda like a big ZIP file). I use Ghost and/or DriveImage to do this all the time. Its a nice way to have a near-line backup. I can give you details if you want.

Thank you for your offer but I have ghosted my c: & d: drives to cds thank you.
What I am now wondering is if my hard drive dies and I replace it can I just reboot with ghost floppy and install my c: drive as I would if I get some problem now. Then partition with partition magic and then continue on and install my data on D: drive or does it not work this way?

"I have ghosted my c: & d: drives to cds"
Did you make a single image of your C and D drives or an image of C and another image of D?
If they're two separate images and your hard drive fails:
You'd first want to create new partitions on a new hard drive with PartitionMagic diskettes. Then go ahead and restore your images to the proper partitions.

Yes, what he said :) I do this all the time. Just make sure your boot floppy has the CD-ROM drivers on it, and I usually include a copy of the Ghost executable and the Ghost Explorer right on the CD with the image file.

Thanks to both of you. Yes I have c & d drive copied separately. and yes I do have the cd drivers on the floppy disk so all will be well in the event of a hard drive needing replacing.
What is the reason for having ghostpe.exe and ghost explorer on the cd as well please?
