I´m swedish, and i don´t know the english word for "Fjärrhjälp" so i describe it instead. It´s when someone simply ask you for help, and i can see his desktop and control his mouse.

The problem is that i always get an error message, telling me i need the latest version of MSN messenger.

So both i and my friend downloaded the latest version but the problem still is there.

I got a firewall (Norton Personal Firewall) but i have alredy tried to disable it.

I never had this problem in the earlier versions of Messenger!

Anyone know what i can do ?

Both i and my friend got 0.5 Mbit DSL (Tiscali) and i got XP Pro, and he got XP Home.

Hi ravemanson,

You are refering to the Remote Sharing feature in MSN Messenger which is the Remote Assistance Program. Do you have Windows Messenger 4.7 installed? If you do not, you can remove Windows Messenger, but you will be preventing Remote Assistance, Whiteboard, Application Sharing and other applications that utilize 4.7 (or loading without problems).

You can disable it and get it out of your way by going to Start, Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components on the left, uncheck Windows Messenger in the components list and click Next >. Note: this is only available if you've installed Windows XP Service Pack 1 -- if you haven't visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

This will still allow MSN Messenger to work properly.

You can either download the latest Windows Messenger 5.0, or if you wish to roll back to Windows Messenger 4.7, there is available download at Microsoft.
