This is probably not the right place to be asking this but I'm sure the answers here will be much more intelligent than at the electronic store. When I rent dvd movies that have scratches my dvd player for my tv will not play them but the dvd player on my computer will. Why is this? Would tv out work? Can you buy the cables that you need at long lengths, we have digital cable does this matter? Thanks for any help.

Welcome to Virt.Dr ees. :)
I would say it may be a difference in the read quality of your stereo's DVD player and the one on your PC. It could also be a dirty laser on the DVD player. Have you used one of the laser cleaner disks lately? And does it get more use than the one on your PC?
If you have a video card or add-on card that supports TV out on your computer, then yes,it will work. You may have to do some adjusting/tweaking on your PC to get the picture quality up however. Cable length up to(i've heard) 50 feet should work ok. Can't justify this personally, but mine runs about 25feet from my PC to TV with no problems..
hope this helped a' bit...
