Hi,

Can anyone suggest a good site to download music from? I have used Kazzaa in the past, and I had many computer problems as a result:(.

Are there any good ones that don't have spyware etc?

Thanks for your help:)

I've been using WinMX (http://winmx.com/) for some time with no problems.

I second mawil's suggestion. Take a read here (http://www.dengo.batcave.net/) to learn about setting it up...;)

I have been using WinMX plus NapMx, and Audiognome for several years. I also use KaZaA Lite with no problems. As long as you do not upgrade KaZaA, you should not have any problems. I have it installed on several computers, and all work well. Not like old times, when you could get a ton of music, but better than a poke in the eye:p .....

I was informed from a very reliable source to stay clear of the KaZaA upgrade. For one thing, it is full of spyware. The Lite version, which incidently, not available anymore, does a great job.

If you think kazaalite is ok to dn/load and use? Take a close read at their temp site(they say main one is down??). Especially the disclaimer page. Then take a VERY close look at the very bottom of the page my link sends you to...

http://www.kazaalite.com/

I set kazaalite up on my experimental PC so that i could see first hand what it was all about. I dn/loaded one song that was listed as an mp3(Bing Crosby's Jingle Bells) dn/loaded just fine. When i went to the shared files folder to check it out,,it had a file extension of AVI . Needless to say, i did not open the file and deleted it and removed kazzalite from the PC.

Personally,,i wouldn't touch anything kazaa related even if wearing a radiation proof suit!!!

You know BC... one resource that hasn't been mentioned for mp3's is usenet (aka newsgroups) Depending on your ISP's retention there can be a huge archive of music at you fingertips. Outlook express can be set up as a newsreader.. you'll need the news server address from your ISP.. and you may find lots of stuff you'll like..

Try groups like --

alt.binaries.sounds.1960s.mp3
" " " .1970s.mp3

In fact if you do a global search for groups with .mp3 in the title you'll get tons of stuff.

Here's a page that shows how to set outlook up as a newsreader..

http://www.my-binaries.com/newsreaders-OutlookExpress-instructions.asp

(You probably would not have to logon/enter a password for your own ISP's newsgroups.)

Don't use your real name or email address for privacy reasons.. if you should ever decide to post a message you would want to remain anonymous.

I don't know I used to use iMesh before, but my computer was getting a lot errors so I decided to uninstall it. If you want you can download it for free on www.download.com !But I'd prefer using KaZaa!
