Hi,
I just got my system back and having lost some files in my CRASH, I am fixing things now that it is running again.
I went to download and install ZoneAlarm as I have always liked to use that.
It downloads just fine but then when I click to install it, I get this message:
A required .DLL file
VSNETUTILS.DLL is missing
1) Any one know where I can get this file?
2) Any one know what to do with it if I find it?

That file should come with Zone Alarm, which should install it into C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM . Perhaps the download was corrupt.

1.) Get it here: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/index.shtml
2.) Install in location as shown by AlaricD
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
or
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32
should you have to register the dll: start, Run, type in (or paste)
C:\> REGSVR32 C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\VSNETUTILS.DLL
or it could be :
C:\> REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VSNETUTILS.DLL
depends on what OS you are using.....

There's no need to download the .DLL from a warez site. It's included in the Zone Alarm installation package.

Then I suppose "ALL" self-created web based sites are warez since 99.99% offer downloadable drivers, software, files, programs, etc....most of which do not express written consent from any original producer, owner, etc....so why not interefere in all post here rather than chose to distort my post or responses! Lighten up, geez........ if you have an issue with me take it to pm or email...
Should you have an issue than perhaps you need to view all posting here and reply with same as lots of recommended places are suggested.......
Moderators should you fill the need to close, than do so, I see no issue referring someone asking for help of this nature. Most of us here refer to some type of site or another...........

The problem with the various dll archives is you can never be sure if the dll you get is the correct build for the rest of the program .
For example , I'm running ZA pro and didn't like the recent upgrade so uninstalled and reinstalled from an older version I still had saved. Now the uninstall did not clear all the dlls like it should so the reinstall saw the newer dlls and left them alone instead of replacing them with the correct older dlls.
The result ? A couple of times a day the older version of ZA will fall over with an error in the dll , so I had to hunt down all the ZA dlls to kill them after uninstalling again , so a good install could take place.

No, not "ALL" self-created websites are warez sites. One can create a webpage with plenty of useful downloadable software by either putting freeware up, or writing one's own software and making it available for others. Or, one can create a website containing only words, images, and sounds of one's own creating.
We cannot escape the fact that .DLL files are copyrighted. They are executable files like .EXE or .COM files, and take the effort of programmers to create. They are an intellectual property. Right-click a .DLL and view the Properties, under the version tab you will see copyright information. Why would MSCVRT.DLL be fair game, but WIN.COM not? Why can't CTL3D.DLL enjoy the same protection of law as the software that drives this forum? What makes the copyright on ATI_VPE.DLL any less valid than the copyright on an episode of a major network television show?
Suppose there were a website called www.exe-files.com (http://127.0.0.1), and offered for download the .EXE files that were "missing" from your OS? Or how about www.os-files.com (http://127.0.0.1), which offers any files you are missing. Does the exclusion or inclusion of certain filetypes really change the nature of the site?
I stand behind my stance on copyright law-- and I stand behind the suggestion that healthagent re-download the software, and could further suggest that perhaps he should disable any virus scanner while doing the install, so that the .DLL files that are provided by (or with the explicit permission of) the copyright holder can be installed properly.

I went to the site and downloaded the files, and they came in a ZIP format. I saved them to a folder I have with all my downloads. That is as far as I got with that.
THEN I downloaded AGAIN the free version of ZoneAlarm at http:\\www.zonelabs.com
Everything seems to go fine EXCEPT that when the little ZA square sits down on my task bar I go to right click on it to open up the control panel to configure it and the icon suddenly vanishes the minute I cursor touches it.
Suggestions
???
P.S. healthagent is a SHE :^)

healthagent,
Maybe taking a look at Zonelabs Service and Support may help. You might even want to try to do a clean uninstall and then reinstall by means of the site:

My apologies if I offended your post or for posting a site link in hopes of expresing help as apparently it did for someone else

No offense taken. So many times people think that insurance agents are men, but there really alot of us pretty lady agents out here.
Thanks for the nice advice for the Zone Alarm. I will try that next.

Hi healthagent,
I see you had the klez virus about 5 days ago.
Have you gone and done any online virus scans in the last day or two, just to be sure your still virus free?

Yes, I did get the Klez to go away. First I used an on line scan to see if I had it and I did. Then I went and looked around at different alternatives. Some were expensive, some were free, some were too confusing for little ol' me, but then I took the advice of this forum and I ended up using AVG at http://www.grisoft.com
That is a super little program and it works wonders.
They have a FREE version, Trial version and also a pay version. I got the free version, it was simple to download/install. Then I let it run, and it located the bad ol' Klez, and then it deleted/repaired and there was 2 left by the time it was done as it also found something called "Iworm/bugbear". It said that if my system still had anything that had not left, then rerun the program (scan) in the Safe Mode. That did it and that totally took care of the problem.
So that is my latest adventure
