My office just got two new machines with XP. We are trying to connect to a workgroup that runs 98. We have run the network wizard on all the machines and the XP machines show up on each others networking but do not seem to exsist on the 98s. I'm a real novice so be patient with me.

You may want to check if ALL the computers are in the same named workgroup...Running the wizard may of created a default named workgroup that is different than the 98 boxes are in.

for starters...

Do you have DSL/Cable modem connection? If so you should disable the "firewall" setting on the network card of your Win XP computers, and then your WIN 98 computers can see them. Because by default, WIN XP will enable the "firewall" setting on the network card. I have the same problem as you are. After I disable the firewall on my WIN XP computer, my WIN 98 computer can see it, but my WIN ME can see my WIN XP computer only one time, and now it still can not see my WIN XP computer. Only my WIN 98 computer still see my WIN XP computer. I still try to figure out what cause this problem. Anyone know it?

Hope this help.

First off...your 98 machines....you will have to get the log on names and passwords and go the XP machines and create identical usernames and passwords on the XP machines before the 98 machines will ever see them....then you will also have to disable the firewall feature if it is enabled on the XP machines..
